1924 Medical Textbook
I finished a repair/restoration on an antique medical textbook from 1924. This book was a challenge: it was over 4 inches thick and weighed 9.5lbs! I am really pleased with how it turned out, I love being able to give old books new life.
The text block was in good condition, no repair required aside from on the endpapers. The spine was almost completely detached from the book, and the hinges were broken.
The old spine was cleaned off and new linings were applied. The old endbands were folded in a new location to make them look new again. A hollow was added, and I colored cloth to match the book and rebacked it. I colored Japanese tissue paper to use where cloth was missing on the old spine piece and on the corners. Broken hinges were reinforced with Japanese tissue paper. Color was retouched using Golden fluid acrylics.
